Part-Time/Temporary Position

Position: Census 2020 Coordinator
The Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MA), is seeking a passionate individual to be our Census Coordinator to support Muslim participation in the 2020 Census. Join the largest American Muslim civil rights organization at the frontlines in protecting the rights of free speech, to freely practice one’s faith, to pursue employment opportunities without harassment, and to live as an active and engaged American without reprisal. Working with our Government Affairs Department, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring Muslim communities across the Commonwealth are counted and accurately represented.

This position is part-time and temporary and is to last between November 2019 through June 2020.

Mission
CAIR-Massachusetts’ mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree OR Senior Status of an Undergraduate Program OR 1-2 years Communication-Related Work Experience
  • Experience in Community Organizing and Civic Engagement
  • Familiarity with Muslim communities
  • Motivated, self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Ability to work with diverse racial and ethnic groups
  • Ability to work flexible hours (some evenings and weekends)
  • Driver’s license, insurance and access to a car
  • Arabic or Somali language competency is a plus

As Census Coordinator you will:

  • Identify, reach out to, and cultivate relationships with community and government partners (particularly mosque leadership, the Statewide Complete Count Committee, and the Massachusetts Immigration and Refugee Advocacy Coalition)
  • Coordinate implementation of a Statewide census plan, including creating/distributing educational materials and hosting community talks
  • Other duties as assigned by the Government Affairs Director

Compensation: $21.50/hour at 10-20 hours per week (400 hours total) You will also receive mileage reimbursements for car travel

Location: CAIR-MA’s office is in Boston, MA but travel across Massachusetts will be required

Term of Employment: November 2019 to June 2020 part-time
